Bridges are permanent repairs that are cemented in between existing teeth in order to replace one (or more) missing teeth.
A dental bridge is comprised of three parts:
- Abutement: The base of the bridge, cemented to nearby teeth dental bridge porcelain
- Crown: Sits on top of the abutement and holds the pontic
- Pontic: The replacem ent tooth
Before the bridge can be put in, the dentist will file down and prepare the adjacent teeth that will anchor it. A temporary bridge is then installed, while the dentist uses molds of the teeth to create an individual, specially sized bridge. Then, he will remove the temporary bridge and cement in the permanent one.
