Caps and crowns are intended to cover individual teeth. At Tri-TownFamily Dental, we typically prepare and install them in two appointments.
First, Dr. Krothapalli will file the tooth and prepare the surface to hold the crown. Next, we'll take a mold or impression of the resurfaced tooth so that a cap or crown can be tailored for a perfect fit, and then a temporary crown is put on.
At the second appointment, the temporary crown is taken off and our dentists install the permanent one in its place.
Dental crowns can be made from ceramic, resin (plastic), porcelain, or metals like gold, nickel, and chromium. At our dental office, we prefer porcelain crowns for their durability, neutral appearance, and high level of safety.
